Accessibility statement
We want parents and carers to use this site with a keyboard, a screen reader, or a phone. This page says what we do, what still needs work, and how to tell us.
Our commitment
Schoolchecker.uk is built as a static website with HTML, CSS, and a modest amount of JavaScript for maps, search, shortlist, and compare. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
Pages use British English, a skip-to-content link, labelled form fields, and visible focus styles. School name suggestions use a combobox pattern. Colour is not the only way we show Ofsted grades or compare highlights.
What should work
- Skip to main content from the top of every page.
- Keyboard access to search, shortlist, compare priorities, and cookie choices.
- Text that can be enlarged in the browser without clipping the main reading column.
- Alternative text or accessible names on controls. Decorative icons are hidden from assistive tech.
Known limits
The school map uses Leaflet. Some map controls and clustered pins are harder with a keyboard than the school list. If the map is awkward, use the school cards and Compare schools instead.
School photos are not published. Profiles show branded initials as a placeholder. Distance and commute hints are straight-line estimates, not step-free route checks.
