Compare is for parents who already have a shortlist. It does not rank every school in England, and it does not replace your council's admissions rules. Pick up to three priorities to get a personalised match score, then use the table for Progress 8, Attainment 8, attendance, SEN and admissions before you book visits.

What to compare
Near home
Check distance from your postcode. Add your home postcode on the area page before you shortlist schools.
Progress 8
Secondary progress score where published. Latest year may fall back to 2023/24 when DfE has not released Progress 8.
Attainment 8
Average GCSE-level attainment across eight subjects for secondary schools.
English & maths (grade 5+)
Share of pupils achieving grade 5 or above in both English and maths GCSEs.
KS2 expected standard
Primary: share meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths.
Good attendance
Higher attendance % is better. Lower persistent absence % usually means fewer pupils missing lots of school.
SEN support
We rank on on-site provision first (resourced provision, SEN unit, or special classes from GIAS), then SEN % from the school census. Need types (for example ASD, SLCN) are shown when published.
Places available
See whether schools are usually oversubscribed or often have places. Not a guarantee for your child.
Ofsted grade
Overall grade where published, or area judgements on newer inspections. Read the detail row for context.
