Schoolchecker.uk is an independent school comparison website for England. The site is operated for public research use. For privacy enquiries, email hello@schoolchecker.uk or use our contact page.

We do not ask you to create an account. We do not need your child's name or date of birth to show school statistics.

If you enter a home postcode, it may be stored in your browser's local storage so distance and map features work on return visits. Your shortlist of schools is also stored locally (up to six schools). You can clear both at any time through your browser settings.

Our hosting provider processes technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps) to keep the site secure and diagnose faults. These logs are routine server records, not a pupil database.

Essential storage remembers your cookie choice and, if you enter one, your home postcode. The shortlist feature uses local storage only on your device; we do not receive your shortlist on our servers in the static site build.

Optional analytics cookies are used only if you choose Accept on the cookie notice. If you choose Decline, analytics storage stays off via Google Consent Mode defaults.

When enabled, we may use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful (for example district views versus compare downloads). Analytics runs only after consent. IP addresses may be anonymised in configuration. We use aggregated reports, not individual pupil profiling.

You can change your mind by clearing site data in your browser and revisiting the cookie notice, or by using browser controls to block analytics cookies.

We may apply to show Google AdSense or similar advertising in future. If ads go live, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure adverts according to their policies. We will update this page before switching ads on and will not place adverts over compare tables or admission-sensitive prompts.

You can manage ad personalisation through Google's Ad Settings and through our cookie choices where offered.

We process technical and analytics data where necessary to run the website (legitimate interests) and, where required, with your consent for optional analytics or advertising cookies. Server logs are kept for a limited period consistent with hosting practice, then rotated or deleted.

Under UK data protection law you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to processing of personal data we hold about you, and to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

Contact hello@schoolchecker.uk to exercise these rights. Because most School Checker data stays in your browser, clearing local storage often removes the only copy of your postcode or shortlist.

We may update this policy when features, analytics, or advertising change. The latest version is always published on this page with a sensible review date in the site footer or data updates log.
